Benedict Timothy Carlton Cumberbatch (rođen 19. jula 1976.) je engleski filmski, televizijski, radio i pozorišni glumac. Rođen je u Londonu i sin je glumaca Timothy Carlton-a i Wanda-e Ventham. Školovao se u dve nezavisne škole: Brambletye School u Zapadnom Saseksu i u školi Harrow u severozapadnom Londonu, u kojoj je i počeo da glumi. Po završetku škole pauzirao je godinu dana da bi predavao engleski u manastiru na Tibetu. Zatim je upisao Univerzitet u Mančesteru, gde je studirao glumu. Po diplomiranju, nastavio je da uči glumu na London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
Od 2001. godine, Cumberbatch je imao glavne uloge u mnogim klasičnim komadima u: Open Air Theatre, Regent's Park, Almeida Theatre, Royal Court Theatre i u National Theatre. Nominovan je za nagradu Olivier za najbolje odigranu sporednu ulogu Tesman-a u predstavi “Hedda Gabler”.
Aprila 2012. Cumberbatch je i osvojio nagradu Olivier za najboljeg glumca za Frankenstein-a u National Theatre-u. Glumac je ostavario i brojne uloge na filmu, radiu i televiziji. Pozajmljivao je i svoj glas i jako je uspešan u tome.
Britanski magazin GQ ga je imenovao “Glumcem 2011. godine”. Što se glumčevog privatnog života tiče, bio je u vezi 12 godina sa glumicom Olivia-om Poulet, koju je upoznao na fakultetu. Raskinuli su marta 2011. godine.
Izgleda da je prošlo vreme holivudskih lepotana i fudbalera koji snimaju modne editorijale u donjem rublju...seksepil danas podrazumeva "moć dedukcije" i ime Šerlok Holms. Shodno tome, ovaj glumac je proglašen za najseksepilnijeg muškarca na svetu po izboru čitalaca tabloida "San". "Moderni Šerlok" iz Bi-Bi-Sijeve serije, koji se nedavno našao i na "Tajmovoj" listi najuticajnijih ličnosti, na listi najseksepilnijih je prešišao jednog slavnog fudbalera i holivudskog zavodnika - Dejvida Bekama i Džonija Depa.
